In a state still recovering from the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Irene, Governor Peter Shumlin(D) has made clear he does not support a proposal to renovate a state owned building in Montpelier to include an apartment for the governor.
Vermont does not have an official governor’s residence and there was a plan put forward to change that as part of the renovation of a Victorian mansion, once used as the Secretary of State’s office, near the Capitol.
Shumlin has signaled he is against the use of public funds to build a gubernatorial apartment and has suggested the resources be redirected toward the Irene recovery effort.
