(Washington, D.C.) – Local officials and the National Park Police intend to enforce a deadline Monday(12PET) that should bring an end to months of squatting by Occupy D.C. protestors at two locations in the city.
One of those locations, Freedom Plaza, is directly across the street from the J.W. Marriott Hotel where the nation’s governors meet at the end of February each year for the Winter Meeting of the National Governors Association.
At least one protestor was arrested at a second location Sunday afternoon as police were distributing fliers warning demonstrators that they would begin to enforce the ban on overnight camping in both locations Monday. It is not known how the protestors intend to react to the police crackdown, whether they will resist, or comply.
It’s also not known if they will breakdown their camps, but continue to return during the day for regular demonstrations that could distract from the NGA meeting. At last year’s winter meeting union protestors created a small disturbance when they staged a protest in support of public employees in Wisconsin.
