At least one Albany legislator is comparing the tactics used this week by Governor Andrew Cuomo(D) unfavorably to the style employed by his disgraced predecessor Eliot Spitzer(D).
Assembly Republicans say Cuomo threatened to campaign against them if they did not vote unanimously for the tax package he pushed through Wednesday. In the end, eight members of the Assembly defied the governor and voted against the bill which included a tax increase on high end earners. Some felt the process was too secretive and rushed.
Approval of the measure is seen as another big win for Cuomo at the end of a successful first year.
